Civetta and Pelmo, then, are giants
of the Dolomites, at the centre of a region which
is among the most famous in the world. They are
surrounded by the Sella Group, by the Pale of
S. Martino, by the Tofane, by the mountains that
stand behind Cortina d'Ampezzo and by the Marmolada,
that have seen their slopes merging into one of
the most beautiful ski networks.
Ski Civetta has thus become the biggest ski area
of the Veneto region located between the Marmolada
and Cortina d'Ampezzo that joins together the
ski resorts of Alleghe, Zoldo, Selva di Cadore
and Palafavera.
Ski Civetta offers 80 kilometres (50 miles) of
pistes, 27 ski lifts, cable cars, etc. which can
carry up about 30000 people an hour. Nearly all
the pistes are covered with planned snow - 70
kilometres of artificial snow produced by 75 spray
machines. Most of the pistes are at a height of
between 1500 and 2000 metres above seal level,
thus ensuring a base of natural snow for the whole
winter season.
Ski Civetta also offers, at Zoldo, five kilometres
of illuminated piste for night skiing served by
a fast cable car and 40 kilometres of cross-country
runs, two of which are illuminated.
