In 1987 a Mesolithic burial with other well-preserved finds was found in the area of Mondeval de Sora, about 2,150m of height, in San Vito municipality. Under the shelter of a big rock, the search unexpectedly revealed the skeleton of a hunter with rich grave goods dating back to 7,500 years ago.
The finding had a global relevance in the scientific field because of the perfect conditions of the organic finds, but above all for the altitude of the discovered burial. The skeleton is still subjected to scientific research in order to collect more information about the life habits of these hunters.
All the finds, the hunter skeleton and lots of other evidences, which prove the presence of man in this wonderful valley since ancient times, can be admired at the Civic Museum in Selva di Cadore.
